The Turkish presidency slammed the US Senate on Thursday for passing a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocids.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s communications director, Fahrettin Altun, took to Twitter shortly after the vote to desribe the move as an irresponsible and irrational action and threaten Washington with “long-lasting damages”.

“History will note these resolutions as irresponsible and irrational actions by some members of the US Congress against Turkey. They will go down in history as the responsible party for causing a long lasting damage between two nations,” he said.

The US Senate passed S.Res.150 in a historic vote on Thursday, rejecting Turkey’s denials of its genocide against Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Syriacs, Arameans, Maronites, and other Christian nations.

The resolution is identical to the earlier measure (H.Res.296) adopted 405 to 11 in the US House in late October.
