Vice President of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Armen Ashotyan has voiced concern over a recently circulated controversial letter addressed to members of the European parliament by the “Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh”

The politician has published the document on his Facebook page, calling for a proper attention by the Foreign Ministry and the National Assembly of Armenia.

In the letter, dated December 12, the Azerbaijanis first congratulate the MEPs on their recent election, noting that they took office at a time when the rights of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) are “under attack worldwide”. The expres hope for an “unwavering support” by the European politicians, complaining about losses “suffered immensely by the abuses of Armenia” and the “forceful expulsion from homes in Nagorno-Karabakh”.

The authors of the letter also insist on a right to “return to the homeland” to live “in peaceful co-existence with the Armenian community of Nagorno-Karabakh”.

Addressing the sensitive remarks in the document, Ashotyan calls particularly for the authorities’ urgent steps towards averting the imminent risks.
