Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened the Washington authorities to recognize the genocide of the Native Americans, saying that the Turkish parliament has the right to pass a resolution in an attempt to hit back at the Senate move to acknowledge and condemn the 1915 Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, RIA Novosti reported.

In the resolution (S,Res, 150) passed on Thursday, December 12, the upper house of the US Congress conveyed a strong message message to the administration to honor the Genocide victims through official recognition and commemoration of the big crime. The measure also contains an appeal to the US government to encourage awareness-raising of the Armenian Genocide and halt future attempts to deny that tragedy or any other crime of genocide. The Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the resolution.

“We have opened over a million of documents on the 1915 events. You are welcome to study them. We are speaking with the documents in our hands. We also need to speak against you with such decisions by our parliament. And we will do that. Is it possible to keep silent about the Native Americans when speaking about the United States? It is a disgraceful chapter of the US history,” the Turkish leader said in a televised address.
