SDU leader seeks alliance with Armenia's political parties
When there were no parties in Armenia, the Self-Determination Union (SDU) was expecting people to respond.
Now it is expecting parties to respond. The SDU submitted a concept to all the political forces and none of them objected to it.
However, since the SDU did not expect such responses, the SDU decided to hold press conferences to inform other it has no intention to wait for long. It has a further step at hand, SDU Chairman Paruir Hayrikyan said while hosted by the Urvagits (Outline) TV program on the Kentron TV channel.
He noted that the SDU will go back to the positions that inaugurated Armenia's independence unless it receives a response for some time more. "A system has been formed that not only makes Armenia the world's most democratic state, but also makes people masters of their homeland," he said. People called him a dreamer when he spoke of a referendum on independence, constitution and national army.
As regards election rigging, Hayrikyan noted that he managed to find a key for people not t think of themselves as only instruments for "powerful ones" to get into Parliament.
"I am speaking of the global democratic crisis. To quote Mr. Churchill: 'Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.' I want this saying to pass into history," Hayrikyan said.
"Yes, I have come from the Moon – for you and for the people," he said. However, he added, his ideas that were once considered dreams became reality.
He proposes forming an alliance and put his ideas into practice in cooperation with political parties. "If we fail to reach an agreement with political parties, I, as SDU chairman, will revert to the positions of the United National Party and call on the people to unite round the new union. I can calm you down – I am not going to participate in the elections. May be we will manage to get 51 to 60 per cent," Hayrikyan said.
