Cattle slaughterhouse to open in Armenia’s Syunik
The southern region of Syunik is amid preparations for launching a slaughterhouse for cattle.
A spokesperson talking to our Tert.am said that the final procedures for building and operating all the units of the facility will be finalized in just a couple of days.
“We have projects and have to calculate all things. It will be clear in a couple of days’ time. We do not yet know the prices and the procedures of operation,” Samvel Tangyan told our correspondent.
President of the Agrarian Peasants Union Hrach Berberyan said in later comments that it will be up to the villagers to decide whether or not to hand over their cattle to the slaughterhouse for meat procession.
He called for special attention to ecological issues to ensure a strict observance of sanitary norms in the facility.
Earlier reports focused on plans for exporting most of the processed meat to Iran. But Breberyan more stresses the importance of ensuring the domestic consumption volumes. According to him, the export of 30,000-50,000 thousand neat cattle is not likely to have a major impact on the economy. “We can export [cattle], without harming the economy,” he said.
