Meet the 2014 Porsche Macan

Just a day before the brand new Porsche Macan will be officially presented to the public during the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, the model has been officially unveiled by the carmaker.

The Porsche Macan is finally here, putting a stop to approximately one year of road tests, teaser images and videos and leaked information. The model has become the company’s cheapest SUV, being smaller than the Cayenne, and standing at 4,699 mm in length, 1,923 mm in width and 1,624 mm in height, making it 146 mm shorter, 16 mm narrower and 82 mm lower than its larger brother. The Macan is based on the Audi Q5 but it is larger than the model made by the four-ring carmaker by 70 mm in length and 24 mm in width, with a height standing at 30 mm lower.

At the time of its launch, the Porsche Macan S will be taking its power from a 3.0 liter twin turbo engine, producing a total output of 340 HP (250 kW), mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.4 seconds, or in 5.2 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package. Top speed stands at 254 km/h (158 mph) and the average fuel consumption at approximately 9.0L / 100 km. CO2 emissions will stop at 212 g/km.

The Porsche Macan S Diesel will be the next one in the lineup, with its 3.0 liter twin turbo V6 diesel engine, producing 258 HP (190 kW).

The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration in this variant takes 6.3 seconds, or 6.1 seconds with the Sport Chrono package, while the top speed stands at 230 km/h (143 mph). The average fuel consumption is 6.3L / 100 km and the CO2 emissions will average between 159 g/km and 164 g/km.

The top of the line Porsche Macan Turbo will also be the most powerful version of the model, taking its power from a 3.6 liter V6 twin turbo engine, with 400 HP (294 kW). The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration will take 4.8 seconds, or 4.6s with the Sport Chrono package, while the top speed will stand at 266 km/h (165 mph). Fuel consumption will average at 9.0L / 100 km and the CO2 emissions will stop at 216 g/km.

Porsche says that the Macan will receive, later on, a new base model, which will take its power from a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which will produce 280 HP. A cheaper diesel will also become available, which will pack a 2.0 liter turbo engine under its hood. These will be the company’s first four-cylinder engines, since 1995, when the 968 has left the production line.

The Porsche Macan will get a double wishbone suspension, an electro mechanical steering system, an air suspension, a multi-link rear arrangement and updated geometry. The model will ride on 18-onch alloy wheels, on the Macan S and Macan S Diesel, while the Macan Turbo will get larger 19-inch rims. The Macan S and Macan S Diesel will start at 57,930 EUR while the Macan Turbo will set you back for 79,826 EUR. The model will become available at German dealers in April.
