‘Against 5% Compulsory Pension Contributions’ to apply to Armenia’s president

The initiative ‘Against 5% Compulsory Pension Contributions’ intends to address a letter to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.

They demand that the president propose that Armenia’s parliament hold a special meeting to launch public discussions with the participation of experts and relevant agencies.

The Facebook user nicknamed Cragravoroxner Cragravoroxyan promises to publish the number of signatures put to the letter.

With the current demographic, economic and other factors, the new system poses a threat to a number of sections of Armenia’s population, including “young professionals that see their future in Armenia” – lawyers, accountants, teachers, doctors, engineers.

“We love our country and want to build it up,” the letter reads.

The activists remind Armenia’s president of his own statements on the IT sector’s significant role in Armenia’s economic development.

The initiative calls on all the citizens born in 1974 and later to join the initiative.

“All those born in 1974 and later, will receive their salaries 6.6 to 13 percent reduced from January 1, 2014. The funds will be transferred to pension funds for people to get them back as pension at the age of 63. We are against compulsory contributions. We want to have the right to choose,” the letter reads.
