Armenian PM expects proactive economic policies by diplomats

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan unveiled the Armenian Government’s development programs in the economic sector on Wednesday, saying that he expects diplomats’ proactive efforts in that direction.

At a meeting with representatives of the Foreign Ministry’s central apparatus and heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to Armenia, the chief of the cabinet said the Government intends to deepen its proactive economic policies in all possible directions, especially in the Eurasian integration efforts.

Abrahamyan said that an EU decision to grant Armenia the privileges of the EU common system would make the European markets more attractive for the domestic exporters, boosting the delivery of local products to the West. He noted in the meantime that the country’s integration into the Eurasian Customs Union would offer exceptional opportunities to European investors, facilitating their export to the Eurasian market.

“Armenia’s economy is more liberal and attractive for foreign investors today. In that respect, I attach a great importance to improving Armenia’s investment reputation on the international arena, and increasing the country’s recognizability through international investment conferences, business forums, as well as authoritative financial and media campaigns,” he told the meeting.

The premier stressed the importance of intensive work towards the accomplishment of the mutually beneficial trade-economic ties and business cooperation.

He said further that regional cooperation programs have a central role in the development of economic relations and the expansion of political dialogue with the partner states.

Abrahamyan promised government efforts towards ensuring a higher degree of effectiveness in the implementation of programs and increasing the number of joint regional initiatives. He called for paying a special attention to the accuracy of the reports submitted to the Foreign Ministry by the regions and different cities and towns of Armenia, highlighting the need of their proper use in the promotion of an effective cooperation with the administrative units of different states.

Abrahamyan further emphasized the need of deepening the joint activities between the Foreign Ministry and different bodies responsible for economic policies to make the entire information on Armenia’s business opportunities and investment environment more accessible to foreign investors.
