Competition of innovative cleantech business ideas announced in Armenia

With the financial assistance by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) the United Nations Industrial Development Organization UNIDO has initiated a project aimed at the Global Clean Technology Innovations for SMEs project in Armenia, which aims to support innovative cleantech business ideas and turn them into viable businesses, thus creating a sustainable and favorable environment for them.

A competition of innovative cleantech business ideas has been announced under the project, Anahit Simonyan, Head of Operations, told reporters on Thursday.

“The competition has been taking place in Armenia since 2014, and this year we plan to select 80 cleantech business ideas,” she said.

According to Ms Simonyan, a special commission will assess all the selected ideas and the authors of the 25 best ideas will form teams to continue the competition by attending 10-week businesses training courses.

The final stage of the competition is scheduled for this October. A commission formed of local and international experts will select the best four of 25 participants. The four winners will receive money prizes ($10,000 each). This year, program envisages a $2,000 prize for women-participants.
