Armenia, Iran need more serious steps in transport cooperation - Seyed Kazem Sajjad

Armenia’s Minister of Transport and Communication Gagik Beglaryan held a meeting on Tuesday with Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Seyed Kazem Sajjad.

Mr Beglaryan welcomed the newly appointed ambassador, congratulated him on his diplomatic mission in Armenia and wished him efficient activities and success.

Mr Beglaryan spoke of Armenian-Iranian friendly relations and highlighted mutual confidence in implementing joint projects.

“Armenia and Iran have always had mutually beneficial transport cooperation. We are now discussing an Armenia-Iran railway project, as well as Iranian companies’ involvement in the North-South corridor investment project. I recently had an occasion to discuss the projects with Iran’s Minister of Transportation and Housing Abbas Akhoundi, here in Armenia. The implementation of the projects will be of high importance for the development of both the states and for active cooperation between the regional countries,” Mr Beglaryan said.

On his part, Ambassador Seyed Kazem Sajjad thanked Mr Beglaryan for a warm reception. He noted that the Iranian Embassy in Armenia is actively working on the agreements reached at Mr Beglaryan’s meeting with Mr Abbas Akhoundi.

“Since the construction of the third section of the Iran-Armenian high-voltage line has been intensified, we believe that the two countries have to make more serious steps to succeed in transport and cargo transportation. As regards the north-south corridor, we are expecting serious cooperation as well. Leading Iranian architects and road builders could be involved in the work,” Mr Seyed Kazem Sajjad said.

The sides also discussed Mr Beglaryan’s forthcoming visit to Iran and a number of other issues of mutual interest.
