Peaceful settlement of crisis depends on active participation of each individual – Albert Baghdasaryan

The demands presented to the armed group that attacked a police building in Yerevan are purely political and meet the real state of affairs – power violently seized by an illegal regime and Armenia at the service of another state’s interests, Albert Baghdasaryan, a member of coordinating council of the armed group, told reporters on Monday.

“It is for the eights day since a group of people loyal to Armenian statehood – members of the Sasna Tsrer group – as well as Armenia’s entire population, who are deprived of any civilized and legal chances to exercise their constitutional rights, had to resort to actions envisaged by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, particularly, the right to revolution,” he said.

Although the group members released all the hostages, the ruling regime has not fulfilled the agreement.

“It is the third day since water and electricity supply has been cut off, and the group has not received food or medicines. The wounded group member has not received medical aid in defiance of all the international and human norms, trying to starve them to death,” the coordinating council’s statement reads.

Supportive for a peaceful settlement of all the issues and objecting to any clashes between peaceful protesters and police, the coordinating council is sure that Armenia’s authorities will find the strength to show restraint and refrain from use of force. Otherwise, it could lead to unpredictable consequences.

The coordinating council sees the president’s guilt in case of any clashes, calling on all he foreign ambassadors to Armenia, international organizations, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to actively interfere in a peaceful and negotiated settlement of the crisis.

“We are sure that, in the current situation, it is on active participation, unanimity and determination that a peaceful settlement of the issue depends.”
