Republican Party 'positioning itself as radical opposition’
The former ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) on Monday announced its pre-election platform, elaborating on the key steps reflecting their vision for the country’s development.
The six-clause document is printed against a black-and-white background, a design which a deputy chairman said “is not absolutely a random choice”.
“That’s the kind of reality imposed on Armenia today,” Armen Ashotyan told reporters, accusing the ruling authorities of non-professionalism.
Asked how they estimate their chances at the initial phase of the campaign, the politician noted that many opponents have already managed to predict their total failure.
“Тhat kind of statements imply disrespect for the citizens of Armenia. It is obvious we will not get zero votes – but tens and thousands instead. And even if we are elected to parliament, those people [who cast their ballots for us] are citizens of the Republic of Armenia.”
Ashotyan said the RPA “is currently positioning itself as a radical opposition”. “The authorities are, on the one hand, predicting our political demise and on the other hand – [mis]using resources to fight against us. If we are not a political contender, what for is then all this struggle against our ghosts?” he asked.
The official campaign for the December 9 snap elections kicked off on Monday Two political alliances and nine parties are running for parliament.
