German legislator says Bundestag ‘likely to ratify’ EU-Armenia agreement in April

A member of the German Bundestag on Tuesday hailed the positive dynamics in the Armenian-German relations, expressing hope that their top legislative body will move to ratifying the EU-Armenia agreement in April.
“The Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between Armenia and the EU is going to be discussed – and naturally also ratified – by the German parliament in the near future,” Dr. Albert H. Weiler, the president of the Armenian-German Forum, said in a speech at the Konrad Adenauer foundation’s public debate Armenia on the Path towards Europe.
He said that the bill will be considered also on April 14.
“We expect its successful approval in Germany,” the German legislator added.
In his words, the document contains also elements of the EU-Armenia Association Agreement - discussed in the past but not signed by the Armenian government.
Weiler further stressed the improtance of developing differentiated approaches to the EU Eastern Partnership member states which have an Association Agreement and those which are trying to establish friendly relations with the Union (such as Armenia).
“We have a transparent and clearly outlined agenda; the clauses in this agreement are clear-worded and unequivocal, and a Comprehensive and Deep Economic Partnership, which implies joint routes, sets out a framework of dialogue which is mutually beneficial,” he said.
