"My step" does not have a clear position on the situation in the Constitutional Court, maybe we will come up with another solution: Lilit Makunts on Vahe Grigoryan's Letter

Obviously, the situation is problematic and the professional community has unanimous attitude towards the phenomenon. Head of the faction Lilit Makunts stated this at a press conference today by the "My Step" faction of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, touching upon the question if there is a constitutional crisis, and finally, what is the opinion of the fraction about the Constitutional Court judge Vahe Grigoryan’s letter addressed to the NA, where he offered a solution for the crisis.

"We deal with the problem that needs to be solved. Vahe Grigoryan offered the option, I cannot claim that "My step" has a clear position on how we see the solution. Maybe we will come up with another solution, it's still under discussion, " she said and added that she cannot express an opinion concerning the topic whether there is a crisis or not.

"It is problematic that the solution requires a solution, because it is in pragast when many decisions depend on whether the constitutionality of the issue is examined, is it constitutional or not, then there is no need to hurry and make hasty decisions," she said.

According to Makunts, it is supposed that their answer will be given in the autumn session.

"This relative cease-fire speaks of the fact that we are not in an easy situation and are not in a hurry to make the situation worse. With regard to CC issues, we tend to come up with solutions until September. Solutions mean that all our actions within the framework of the law and in any way the resolution will not be considered interference with the judicial power. The problem is that the approach is multifaceted and our position is to provide a legal solution, and it is also important not to make any problematic decisions within the international commitment, " Makunts said.

According to the observation that Vahe Grigoryan sees seven vacant seats in the Constitutional Court, Makunts mentioned that even in the jurisdiction there is no definite approach to the issue. "The first one should be a solution in the legal domain," he said.

Vladimir Vardanyan, Chairman of the State Commission on Legal Affairs, noted that Vahe Grigoryan's letter was received, everyone would study and touch upon it. "The document is large and needs study," he said.

To the question whether Vahe Grigoryan is the president of the Constitutional Court or not, Vladimir Vardanyan mentioned that there could be all kinds of comments.

"Just the CC is either elected members of the three regimes or judges, and there may be some restrictions on the age limit and the term of office, but not the same principle. We are in transition, and it's important to understand that this is not a matter of the National Assembly, it's a matter of the Constitutional Court and the judiciary," he said.
