EU expert group committed to assist in Armenia's youth strategy revision

An expert group from the European Union is in Armenia these days to assist the government in its current efforts towards the revision of the state youth strategy.

The mission is expected to collaborate with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport to propose steps promising the enhancement of the youth policies and the legal porcedures, as well as further measures towards facilitating the revision process.

The delegation on Tuesday met with government officials, members of the National Assembly and representatives of local government bodies and youth, as well as international organizations. At the discussion attended also by representatives of the EU Delegation to Armenia, the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan and UN offices in Armenia, Deputy Minister Gevorg Loretsyan thanked the group for assistance to the Armenian authorities, highlighting the importance of the meeting as a good platform to consider, and find solutions to, the existing problems.

''Taking over the management of this sector absolutely recently, I immediately revealed the tremendous amount of work we have to do in terms of improving the youth policies, especially in the legal domain. The youth engagement in the active public-political life is our supreme objective, and it is our desire to have an educated and knowledgeable youth. As the youngest official of New Armenia, it is a double responsibility for me to take over the sphere's management. The youth have always demonstrated their capacity and did that on all the possible levels. They demonstrated that capacity in the best way during the 'Velvet Revolution' as they actively involved different youth groups in the processes taking place in the country,'' he said in his greeting address.

According to the Ministry's press service, the group is to visit the second largest city of Gyumri (Shirak region) on Wednesday, July 17 to conduct meetings and debates with regional administration officials, and local youth organizations.

On Thursday, July 18, they are expected to sum up the outcomes in a separate meeting-discussion.
