Armenia's foreign policy reforms imply 'no geopolitical changes,' says parliament speaker

The reforms on Armenia's foreign policy agenda do not imply major geopolitical shifts, yet the general style of work is expected to undergo a certain change to match the new set of values, the parliament speaker said today.

In a speech at a meeting with cheifs of Foreign Ministry organizational units and heads of Armenian diplomatic missions, Ararat Mirzoyan also stressed the importance of legislative efforts to follow the proposed guidelines.  

‟No planned changes in the geopolitical guidelines - as has been already stated! What changes is the style of conducting foreign policies given that our diplomats, who defend our country's interests on a unique frontline, cannot pursue their defense with the existing factoral base, which has changed essentially. And Armenia has changed essentially too,″ he said, underlining the need of creating the country's global image of a soveign state "capable of protecting its own interests".

‟Just talk to our citizens in the street,″ Mirzoyan continued. ‟The citizen of the Republic of Armenia enjoys more freedom than ever before. What the citizen virtually expects from each and every of us is action relying on totally different values.″

Mirzoyan further moved to praise the ‟great progress″ in parliamentary diplomacy.

‟Mutual understanding, complementarianism and change. Here is the formula that gives the effective evaluation to our work. The parliamentarians gathered here must certainly follow the guidelines developed by the Foreign Ministry to be part of that process,″ he added.
