Jennifer Lopez's Hustlers inspiration Samantha Barbash vows to sue producers claiming she hasn't been compensated after film passes $72M in worldwide box office

The woman whose life story Jennifer Lopez's Hustlers character is based on is vowing to drag producers of the film into court, saying she hasn't been compensated.

Samantha Barbash, who inspired J.Lo's Ramona character, entered a guilty plea two years ago to her leading role in a crime ring of exotic dancers who drugged and robbed rich New York City men, the Daily Mail reports.

A New York Magazine 2015 piece had earlier detailed the story, which was subsequently adapted into the hit film, which features an ensemble cast of Constance Wu, Cardi B, Keke Palmer and Lili Reinhart.

Bruno Gioffre, a lawyer for Barbash, gave STX 10 days to come to a deal with Barbash in a letter he sent the film company on Monday, claiming a 'flagrant violation' of his client's rights, Variety reported Monday.

STX countered in saying it didn't need Barbash's approval to make the motion picture.

'We will defend our right to tell factually based stories based on the public record and look forward to resolving this matter before a judge,' a spokesperson for the company said, according to the outlet.

A similar claim was made in a 2017 suit against FX Networks by Olivia de Havilland over the miniseries Feud, and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said the network had the right to incorporate historical events into a fictional story.

The film has been a commercial hit with more than $72 million in worldwide box office totals since its release earlier this month, with more than $62 million in domestic revenues, according to Box Office Mojo.
