'We are not starting negotiations from a scratch' – Armenian FM on Artsakh peace process

We are not starting the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) peace talks from a scratch, as the processes have been going on for 25 years under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group as the most active and effective framework, Armenia's foreign minister minister said Thursday.

″We have developed numerous approaches and ideas as part of the negotiation process, and it is now fundamental for us to combine the numerous parameters reflecting also the supremacy of our position,″ Zohrab Mnatsakanyan told reporters after a closed-door meeting with members of the ruling parliamentary bloc My Step.

Asked to comment on plans for a meeting with Azerbaijan's foreign minister, the minister said that the negotiations are being conducted on an ongoing basis.

″We have never evaded negotiations, being, on the contrary, actively involved in the process. Ever since the new government's inauguaration, we haven't postponed the talks for a single moment,″ he said, citing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's meeting with the Azerbaijani leader back in March and numerous other non-formal negotiations.

″We notify of the meetings in advance,″ Mnatsalanyan said.

But he refrained from comments on future rounds of talks, considering it too early to make predictions for now. ″It is still early to talk about a meeting between Pashinyan and [Azerbaijani President Ilham] Aliyev. We keep the processes going on the level of the foreign ministers″ he added.
