Zhoghovurd: Former Genocide museum chief affirms plan to create political party
In an interview with ArmLur.am (online version of Zhoghovurd Daily), the former director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, Hayk Demoyan, confirmed the earlier reported news about his plans to create a political party, introducing the ideology and plans expected to consolidate co-thinkers.
The historian said he will have to temporarily give up academic activity to embark upon the difficult task of developing a modernized strategy and program "anchored on national values". "That's a bid for creating a new political culture, but the first mission which such a [political] force os expected to realize is to be a third force with a new program of its own, a new roadmap to bring the country on its regular track and, last but not least, a [new] political culture," he said.
As for the party's name, Demoyan said he is still "undecided" about the issue, being more concentrated on the credo of pushing strongly ahead with the "national policy trend".
"We will try to preserve the national values, which is to say the party will become a kind of tool that will help Armenia to get adapted - with its culture, present and past - to the very rapidly developing world," he said, admitting that the tasks set will be very difficult in the face of the post-war crisis.
Asked whether they are considering any plans to run for parliament (should the authorities realize their agenda for early elections), Demoyan said they are not pursuing "sport interests".
"If we try to set specific timeframes for ourselves to make the participation in parliamentary elections mandatory, we will strictly restrict the principle of setting up a party as a fundamental structure," he replied.
