Current Armenian authorities give precedence to ‘electoral processes' vs. national interests – Karen Bekaryan
In the latest series of his televised review, political analyst Karen Bekaryan accused the current Armenian authorities of subordinating national interests to short-term political objectives.
As part of the broadcast Between the Lines aired on ArmNews TV channel, the board director of the analytical center Hayatsk (Insight) voiced his criticism of Nikol Pashinyan’s government’s move to embark on “electoral processes” at the crucial moment for the nation.
According to the analyst, the Armenian society was warned repeatedly over the past years of the challenges stemming from the current government’s policy actions. “There wasn’t originally a state or national interest for the incumbent authorities. There isn’t and there will never be. The defeat [in the recent Karabakh war] was plotted over the past years. The struggle is in a completely different domain, i.e. – it is a campaign for maintaining the hold on power and laying the blame on others,” he noted.
Bekaryan stressed the importance of electing the kind of government that would be able to negotiate with the strategic ally, i.e. – Russia, which simultaneously carries out also a peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh).
“That delicate game requires willingness, a government ready to struggle for the national interest to minimize the risks - after an assessment process - and to capitalize on the opportunities,” he said, complaining about the total absence of the enumerated components.
“All this has now come to be replaced with a farce called electoral processes,” the analyst added.
