Ex-President Kocharyan issues public call as campaign for snap elections gets underway

Second President Robert Kocharyan issued a public call earlier today, expressing confidence about his team’s political success in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections:

“My call to the teammates, alliance sympathizers and all the citizens at the start of the [electoral] campaign:

1.      To focus on the content of our platform throughout the entire campaign. Our platform has a huge potential to promote a real upturn in the country;

2.      Let us intoxicate people with a positive mood, as the idea of hope and dignity must enter the home of each our compatriot;

3.      Forget about the incumbent authorities; they are not on our agenda. Switch to what is coming next, focusing on the future;

4.      Do not succumb to any provocation. It is now obvious that a narrow group, representing the current authorities, is eager to do all its best to provoke tension and even clashes internally. That’s the only ability of that person [Acting PM Nikol Pashinyan], as the prospect of inevitable defeat is now pushing them to all kinds of unlawful actions.

5.      Treat all the [political] forces with respect. Those of them who struggle for closing this chapter of defeat are our partners;

6.      Talk to our compatriots with patience. Those people were, for three years, under the total influence of the government-backed agitprop. and the propaganda of the foreign powers undermining the country.

7.      My call upon employees of the public sector: the overwhelming majority of you are patriotic and professional people, so we together are sure to achieve dignified peace, economic development and upturn on the pan-Armenian agenda. Never yield under any threat.

8.      I call upon the police, security and defense officers to stay vigilant and composed. Do not abide by the outgoing authorities’ unlawful orders! Performs only your duties!

9.      Threats, pressure and attempts to intimidate my teammates - and virtually any citizens - will not go unpunished. Everyone individually will be held accountable under the law.

10.  Everything is very simple as far as these elections are concerned: hope, the prospect of growth and the idea of a dignified peace are sure to win. In just 14-days’ time, we will start a new chapter in Armenia.

We will have safe borders by all means and ensure, by all means, durable peace and our dignified status in the region. We will by all means have a working and developing state.

Everything will be fine,” the leader of the Armenia Alliance said.
