Lulin to cut through the Earth's orbit

The Comet Lulin with an unusual green colour is going to cut through the Earth’s orbital plane by the end of February, Online Калининград reports. At the closest approach to the Earth on February 24, the comet should brighten to about fifth magnitude and will be visible to the naked eyes. The comet, at its closest, will be about 61 million kilometers from the Earth.

The almost parabolic orbit of Comet Lulin suggests this could be its first visit to the inner solar system.

Comet Lulin was discovered in 2007 by a collaborative team of Taiwanese and Chinese astronomers.
