Obama’s Position Remains Unchanged on the Armenian Genocide Issue: White House Spokesperson

The United States are in support of the facts being justifiably accepted, said US National Security Council spokesperson Mike Hammer in an interview with Turkish state broadcaster TRT.

Asked by the Turkish journalist “why, until now, has the White House not violated the silence” on the issue of the Armenian Genocide bill, Hammer said:

“President Obama, in his April 24 address in 2009 clearly presented his position, which hasn’t changed. We are in support of the facts being accepted fairly. We continue to believe that the most favourable path to reach that aim is investigating past events along with efforts directed at normalizing relations between Armenian and Turkish nations. We will continue to support those efforts,” said the White House representative.

On March 4, the foreign affairs committee of the US House of Representatives will vote on H.Res. 252 which seeks to recognize the atrocities committed against Armenians in 1915 in Ottoman Turkey as genocide.
