Turkey Must Ratify Protocols: CNN Türk Editor-in-Chief

Editor-in-chief of CNN Türk and well-known journalist and analyst Mehmet Ali Birand, referring to the passing of US House Resolution 252 on the Armenian Genocide, writes that Turkey, in order to save the situation, must find ways to convince Baku and implement the signed Protocols between Armenia and Turkey.

According to Birand, if Ankara doesn’t take any steps now, the possibility is great that the US Congress will approve the Armenian Genocide Resolution in the full house.

“Day by day, Washington is heeding Armenian pressure…this time, the complications are coming from Obama. On the road to the White House, he made promises to the Armenians, he accepted the Genocide. And, in essence, in order to become free from his promise and not to lose Turkey, he made it all the way to Ankara and placed before it the Protocols process with Armenia. But even that didn’t work,” writes Birand, highlighting that pressure on Ankara on the Armenian Genocide issue will increase.

“That which took place yesterday is a repeat of the Genocide film. However, let’s not forget, that that film isn’t going to come out from the screens. Pressure is going to increase in the near future. If we’re not able to change anything, the US Congress will recognize the [Armenian] Genocide. It’s not good: let’s ratify the signed Protocols with Armenia, let’s find ways to convince Baku, explain to our Azerbaijani brothers that ruining Turkish-American relations won’t be of use to anyone,” writes Birand.
