Georgia Reducing Number of its Armed Forces

The Georgian armed forces will soon be reduced by thousands, reports Georgian daily Versia (“Version”). The paper does not elaborate on exactly how much it will be reduced by, saying it is a state secret.

Georgia has approximately a 30,000-strong army.

A Georgian lieutenant colonel, David Manvelishvili, told the paper that now the army is serving the security of the ruling authorities, not that of the state.

Earlier reportes noted that Georgia was withdrawing its Air Forces and moving them to its Land Forces.
