Two Courts Holding Simultaneous Hearings on Pashinyan Case Today

A complaint lodged by former editor-in-chief of local Armenian daily Haykakan Zhamanak (“Armenian Times”) and MP candidate in Yerevan’s No. 10 electoral district Nikol Pashinyan to annul the results of the elections in that district will be heard in Armenia’s Constitutional Court today.

At the same time Yerevan’s Court of Appeal will be hearing Pashinyan’s defense attorneys’ appeal to annul a ruling by Yerevan’s Court of First Instance of Center and Nork-Marash Communities and suppress Pashinyan’s case explaining it by a lack of criminal aspects in his actions during March 1 events.

The outspoken political prisoner had at yesterday’s session asked Yerevan’s Court of First Instance of Center and Nork-Marash Communities not to appoint a session today explaining that the Constitutional Court would hold a hearing over his appeal. But it had rejected his motion saying it was not aware whether the Constitutional Court would be hearing his appeal today on March 5 or not.

On January 19, 2010, Pashinyan was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonement under the charge of organizing mass riots.
