“Is Serzh Sargsyan David of Sasun?”

Statements by RA President Serzh Sargsyan about returning territories to Azerbaijan and also some other actions may serve as a basis for Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun, ARF-D) to demand his resignation, ARF-D faction secretary Artyush Shahbazyan said at a press conference today.

Shahbazyan is surprised by the fact the Azerbaijan never speaks about concessions, while Armenia does the opposite.

“We are constantly speaking about concessions due to which [the Azerbaijani] always think that the Armenians will concede. Why are we always speaking about mutual concessions?” said he.

Shahbazyan cited the Constitution of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh (NKR), saying that the Armenian side is now violating it. He is also surprised at why Serzh Sargsyan has taken so many burdens and is making statements on behalf of NKR.

“Is that man David of Sasun?” said Shahbazyan.

Republican Party of Armenia MP Sukias Avetisyan, in turn, said that the priorities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are the nations’ right to self-determination and NKR’s status. While other issues, among them also the return of territories, stem from these issues.

“The issue of returning the territories will be possible to discuss only after those two conditions are secured ... They must be mistaken, those who think that the president has no right to speak on behalf of Karabakh as today the negoiating party is Armenia,” said Avetisyan, adding that he considers it right that the Nagorno Karabakh must become a negotiating party.
