Obama Won’t Use the Word Genocide: Turkologist

House Resolution 252 on the Armenian Genocide won’t make it to a full house vote, said Turkologist Ruben Melkonyan at a press conference today. According to him, just like last year, US President Barack Obama won’t use the term Genocide in his April 24 address, but rather the term Medz Yeghern (“Great Calamity”). And according to the Turkologist, there’s a big difference between the two.

“[The term] Medz Yeghern hasn’t made it into international legal terminology, while Genocide is a legal term,” he explained.

Political analyst Yervand Bozoyan also believes that H.Res.252 won’t make it to the full house agenda.

“As for what Obama will say, it’s not essential, since the Genocide subject won’t become a pivotal issue for discussion,” he said.

According to Bozoyan, the process of normalizng diplomatic Armenian-Turkish relations will continue to remain at a standstill — even after April 24.
