Couple Taken to Police Station over April Fool’s Day Joke

A woman who played a joke on her husband for April Fool’s Day, saying that their grandchildren had been kidnapped by an armed gang, was taken to a police station with her husband after police officers were put on high alert over the situation, reports Today’s Zaman.

Leyla Soydanoğlu, from İstanbul’s Avcılar district, wanted to play a joke on her husband for April Fool’s Day. She called her husband, Atabey Soydanoğlu, to say that an armed gang had attacked their home and kidnapped their small grandchildren aged around two.

Shocked by the news, Atabey Soydanoğlu immediately called the emergency line, 155, on his cell phone. Police officers were put on high alert and went to the Soydanoğlu family’s house.

Leyla Soydanoğlu was overwhelmed by the police officers arriving at her door as she hadn’t expected her husband to call them. After the police confirmed that there had been no attack by an armed gang, they sent not only the grandmother but also her husband to the police station on Thursday to give a statement regarding the event.

On his release after making a statement, Atabey Soydanoğlu said that his wife had only played an April Fool’s joke that one time but that it had ended badly.
