Prime Minister Promises to Control Big Businesses Strictly

If large enterprises can evade their tax obligations, then it is a big evil for any state as it undermines the basis of the state and does not allow small and medium size businesses to grow, Armenia’s Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said before the government’s session today.

Sargsyan said that from now on the government will make sure that the large enterprises make their reports public.
“We will control large businesses more strictly and will make it transparent,” said Sargsyan.

“The President has for several times clearly instructed the Finance Ministry, the Ministry of Economy and the Government’s staff to significantly increase our analytical capacities ... and to reveal those areas that evade paying taxes,” said Sargsyan.

According to the prime minister the Ministry of Finance must in a month’s time publicize the result of its analysis, showing in comparison those indicators that large tax payers had in 2008 and 2009.

“There are suspicions that it is not the big businesses but the small and medium ones that have bore the main budgetary burden during the crisis-hit year, and we have to dispel them. The publication of those reports will enable the public to oversee us,” said Sargsyan, adding that the most effective tool to control the work of large enterprise is transparency.
