TV License Competition Will Take Place on July: Grigor Amalyan

As defined by the law the competition of providing the Armenian TV companies broadcasting licenses will take place on July 20, 2010, Head of National Commission on Television and Radio (NCTR) Grigor Amalyan told journalists at a press conference today.

Amalyan mentioned that the competition is open to any company, both those which want to provide broadcasting services for the first time and the ones that already do so.

Amalyan also said there will be equal conditions for all the participants.

As what concerns the new order of carrying out the competition (the government is in the process of designing a new procedure, including also conditions for digital broadcasters), it is not clear yet whether or not the government will manage to complete the legislative initiative before July 20.

"The point is whether we will manage to carry out the competition with the renewed law, for the digital TV, or whether will we carry out the competition as before, i.e. for analogous broadcasting," said Amalyan.
