Turkish Intellectual Made Public Apology for Armenian Genocide

Famous Turkish writer Oktay Avju made a public apology on behalf of the Turkish state to Armenians on the occasion of 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

According to Turkish news agency Dogan on April 24 Avju apologized from Armenians for the Genocide, perpetrated in the waning days of the Ottoman Empire, while he was in the vicinity of the building of the former City Hall of Malatya, Eastern Turkey, and placed a bunch of carnations on the sidewalk.

Turkish media reports say he verbally assaulted the Ottoman Empire and Mustafa Qemal Ataturk. The by-passers attempted to oppose to him for his words, but the police did not allow them to do so and demanded that Avju leave the scene.

The Turkish writer tried to oppose to the police but left in despair after a next warning, taking with him the flowers.

"I might have smeared the area," Avju said in an apparent irony.
