Shushi is Not Being Reconstructed as Investors Lack Trust: Karapetyan

Shushi should be reconstructed by preserving its atmosphere of the 19 century, Head of Shushi Fund Bakur Karapetyan said at a press conference today, while presenting to the journalists the recovery plan designed by the fund and to be implemented with the help of domestic and international investments.

“Liberation and victory are only half of the work. The town should be reanimated,” said Karapetyan, adding that it is not through measures provided by the Diaspora that the town should be reconstructed, but rather through volunteer investments, i.e. by giving people an opportunity to obtain property.

The project proposes reconstructing Adamyan Street in Shushi.

Speaking about the legal part of their project Karapetyan said that it has already been discussed with the Shushi administration.

“According to the ruling issued those premises and buildings [on Adamyan street] come under the fund’s disposal, and we have been entitled to sign contracts,” said Karapetyan.

Interestingly, the project still remains on paper as no single investor has agreed to reconstruct this or that part of Shushi by receiving a certificate of property.

Regrettably, Karapetyan mentioned that what the investors lack is trust.
