If Abkhazia and South Ossetia Deserve Independence Why Can't Chechnya? Shevardnadze

Russia made a blunder by accepting the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze told Russian language Vremia Novostei newspaper.

“If Abkhazia and South Ossetia deserve being independent, why do Chechnya with 3 million and Daghestan with 4 million population not deserve being independent? Everyone wants to be independent … Ingushetia wants too. I think that sooner or later Russia will correct its mistake, or the circumstances will change,” Shevardnadze was reported as saying.
