Matthew Bryza Appointed as US Ambassador in Baku: Milliyet

Former OSCE Minsk Group co-chair Matthew Bryza was appointed as US ambassador to Azerbaijan, reports Turkish daily Milliyet, adding that this position had for a very long time been vacant.

The newspaper mentions that though Bryza was one of the "brilliant figures" of the US State Department, Bryza's "brilliancy simply faded away" after Barak Obama was elected president.

Further Milliyet mentions that Bryza played an active role in secret negotiations between Yerevan and Ankara over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

At the same time the newspaper does not cite any source to confirm the authenticity of this reporting.

Earlier, Turkish daily Hurriyet reported that Bryza will soon be appointed as US ambassador to Baku. In response to that publication Head of foreign relations office of the US embassy in Baku Tarry Davidson said then that they are currently waiting for an appointment from the White House and that there is no candidate for that position yet.
 
Matthew Bryza is the husband of the Director of Hudson Institute in Washington, Turkish national Zeyno Baran.
