Underground Parking on Azatutyun Square is Ready Earlier Than Planned

The construction of a largest underground parking station on Azatutyun (Freedom) Square near the Opera House in downtown Yerevan has been completed earlier than planned.

The official opening of the parking took place today attended also by the President Serzh Sargsyan. The construction of the parking was planned to be finished in October.

Planned for 500 cars the parking was built by the Italian company Renko Armestate that will implement other construction projects in Yerevan.

The parking has three stores and meets international standards. The company has used modern technologies, materials and equipments.

Interestingly, the parking fee is not known yet. But it is planned to be from 100-500 AMD per hour.

Azatutyun Square has traditionally been the very place where the opposition held rallies. The Armenian oppositionists used this site to build a small tent town in protest of the result of Presidential Elections 2008 prior the March 1-2 clashes with the riot police.

It is still unknown whether or not the site will be used for the same purpose in the future.
