Powerful Explosion on Turkish-Georgian Border Remains Mysterious

A powerful explosion is said to have taken place near the Turkish-Georgian border. According to some unconfirmed reports, it might have been a crashing Turkish plane .

The explosion took place Wednesday at Turkey's Posof region that borders with Georgia.

"According to unconfirmed reports, a powerful explosion occurred on the border with Georgia. The information we have received leads to believe an airplane has crashed," said Turkey's acting governor, Ali Fuat Atik was quoted by local media as saying.

Neither Turkish nor Georgian officials have confirmed the crash reports. The Tbilisi International Airport dismissed the reports about the alleged crash, saying that it had received no information on a possible air incident on the border with Turkey.

According to AFP a Turkish official said troops are combing a rugged area near the border with Georgia after witnesses reported seeing a burning object fall from the sky and explode.
