OSCE Registered Violations in Georgia’s Municipal Elections

Though the municipal elections in Georgia were held at a higher level compared to the previous ones, they are far from being ideal, said OSCE and Council of Europe observation missions.

According to the Russian news website Lenta.ru the international organizations pointed to some “essential shortcomings” and “violations,” such as stuffing of ballot boxes, the incompleteness of the Election Code.

However, the observers praised the Georgian authorities for having improved the conditions in which the voting takes place, and said they backed further improvements of voting conditions.

With the preliminary results already known President Mikheil Saakashvili’s National Movement Party is leading.
