How Do Armenian Youth Solve Problems at Working Place?

Most of young Armenian employees are not well aware of their working rights: 50.9% try to solve their problems through negotiations with their employers, while 18.3% reconcile themselves with the situation, a poll conducted by OSCE Office in Armenia has revealed.

Eight per cent of the respondents said they had been laid off. There have been cases when the youth have turned to the court and the Armenian State Labor Inspectorate, though legal nihilism is prevailing among youngsters due to which many do not trust that a legal solution is possible for their problem.

Conducted among 1205 young people between 14-30-years-old the poll has also found out that only 5% of the respondents are members of trade-unions and have poor knowledge about their working rights.

Of all the 3 elementary questions pertaining to work the respondents has been aware of one only - the amount of holiday a citizen can have per year, while most of the respondents have stood out with their poor knowledge of the issues like working hours or salaries.

49.9 % have been unaware that the law defines 40 working hours per week. Only 29.6% have been aware that the salary must be paid no later than on the 15th day of the next month. Instead, 63.7% of the respondents know that the holidays make up a total of 28 calendar day.

Most of the problems young Armenians faces at their working place relate to the amount of the salary, working conditions and unfair distribution of stimulation means.
