Zvartnots' New Terminal Will Be Exploited in 2011

Armenia International Airports (AIA), the concessionaire of Zvartnots International Airport, is planning to exploit the new passenger terminal complex already at the end of 2011, AIA Chief Executive Officer Marcelo Wender told reporters at the construction site Tuesday.

Wender also said that the old building of the terminal might be used for other purposes, such as a hotel or an administrative building, adding that no final decision has been made yet.

In no way will the building - traditionally bearing a symbolic load for Armenia - be pulled down, Wender assured reporters.

AIA is planning to attract about 100 million Euros to complete the construction. The credits are planned to be attracted from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, German Investment and Development Company and Asian Development Bank.

The credit agreement is planned to be signed in 1.5 months. The money will be allotted for 12 years and will be used to provide the new terminal with modern equipments.

When ready the new terminal will have 3,400 square meter area (currently it is 900 s/m), 46 check-in gates (21 currently).

A new parking lot with a 20,000 s/m total area designed for 600 cars.

A total of $160 million USD is planned to be invested in the construction.
