Levon Ter Petrosyan is Full Aware of the Consequences of Foreign-Language Schools: SDHP

Today is a very important one for Armenian citizens, and "we must be able to stifle the initiative of opening foreign-language schools," Social Democrat Hunchakian Party leader Lyudmila Sargsyan said at a press conference today, adding that the authorities are initiating this move consciously.

In her words the move is "probably dictated by Russia."

Speaking about their party's approach towards the issue she said they considered it a "direct betrayal."

Asked to speak about the approach of the head of Armenian National Congress opposition movement Levon Ter-Petrosyan towards the issue, she said: "I know also Levon Ter-Petrosyan's approach. As a scientist he knows well what the consequences will be if the Armenian-language schools are weakened and foreign-language schools are opened. And who is against that foreign languages be put on a sounder basis? What needs to be done is strengthening the Armenian-language schools and opening various specialized schools … What needs to be done is simply strengthening the Armenian-language schools, but it seems that there is an objective to strengthen the [level] of foreign language [in Armenia] at the expense of Armenian: how can such an idea be welcomed?" said Sargsyan.
