Bakiyev Asks CSTO to Send Troops to Kyrgyzstan

Kurmanbek Bakiyev, the toppled President of Kyrgyzstan who is currently in Minsk, Belarus, has asked member states of Collective Security Treaty Organization to immediately intervene in the chaotic situation in the country by sending troops there, reports Cihan news agency.

Bakiyev called on CSTO states to put an end to the bloodshed between Kyrgyz and Uzbek brotherly nations, blaming the interim government of Kyrgyzstan for the tense situation in the country.

At the same time he called on the CSTO states to send peacekeepers to Kyrgyzstan.

"Russian, Armenia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan must immediately intervene and emend the situation," Bakiyev was reported as saying.

Earlier Security Council secretaries of CSTO states convened a special session in Moscow and came to the conclusion that any CSTO intervention aimed at stabilizing the situation in Kyrgyzstan would be acceptable.
