Former Political Prisoners Deserved More Attention in Armenia:Paruyr Hayrikyan

Armenians very often remember the Soviet Union era with happiness but forget that Soviet Union was a despotism that according to some calculations took 100 million human lives, leader of National Self-Determination Union (NSDU) Paruyr Hayrikyan said at a press conference today as he referred to the day of political prisoners celebrated in Armenian on June 14.

Discontent of the fact that the day was not duly celebrated in Armenia Hayrikyan at the same mentioned with an apparent joy that there is a special in Armenia day dedicated to political prisoners thanks to a Government decision.

Also a monument dedicated to political prisoners has upon President Serzh Sargsyan's decree been built.

Further he said that the Soviet Union despotic regime is equal to genocide perpetrated not only against Armenians, but rather the people of all other Soviet Union member states.

"We must remember the Soviet despotism with all its malevolence and must condemn it so that its return will be ruled out," said Paruyr Hayrikyan.
