Armenia Will Not Send Troops to Kyrgyzstan

Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has offered Kyrgyzstan political and humanitarian help, Director of CSTO Armenian representation Nver Torosyan told a press conference today, adding the organization could not turn a blind eye to what is happening in Kyrgyzstan - a CSTO member state.

According to Torosyan by a June 14 special session convened by the secretaries of CSTO Security Council CSTO designed collective measures to help Kyrgyzstan. Particularly, the member states will provide Kyrgyzstan with political and humanitarian assistance, i.e. CSTO will help the interim government of Kyrgyzstan.

As what concerns Armenia, Torosyan mentioned that Armenia's assistance to Kyrgyzstan will be implemented in the framework of CSTO mandate. But he did not mention what specific assistance Armenia would send to Kyrgyzstan.

Asked whether or not was is possible that CSTO would send troops to Kyrgyzstan, Torosyan said that none of CSTO member states will in the near future send any troop there.

"I think it there will be no need to send troops there, as I already mentioned, as there are signs of normalization [of the situation] in Kyrgyzstan," said Torosyan.
