Ankara has preferred to keep silent over Clintons visit to Genocide Memorial

Turkey has decided not to officially oppose to the US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton's visit to the Genocide Memorial in Yerevan Monday.

"It would be much more beneficial for the Armenian side, should we have opposed to Clinton's visit. We should not do what they want us to do," local Turkish daily Milliyet cites a high-level diplomat who preferred to remain anonymous.

In his words any deterioration of Turkey-US relations will be beneficial for the Armenian lobby.

Turkish MPs from ruling AKP and opposition parties have also referred to Clinton's visit to the Genocide Memorial in Yerevan.

According to local Turkish daily Hurriyet, Deputy President of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Turkish parliament Mehmed Ceilan said that her visit to Tsitsernakaberd has disobliged them.

"The [ratification] of the Protocols [signed] between Armenia and Turkey is suspended. Naturally, we are waiting for development that will contribute to the Armenian-Turkish rapprochement. At the same time we expect our colleagues to avoid a working style that will harm the process. And in that sense, without any doubt, we do not welcome Clinton's visit. That visit disobliges us" said he.
