“Only renovated Madrid proposals exist in the form of document”: Elkhan Polukhov

“There is only document concerning the resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict: it is renovated Madrid proposals,” Azerbaijan news agency APA quoted Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elkhan Polukhov as saying.

It comes after Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan expressed his ideas about the St Petersburg proposals Sunday.

“Despite that Russia plays a great role in this process and Russian president [Dmitry Medvedev] joined several meetings, the proposals are worked out only by the co-chairs. There are renovated Madrid proposals existing in the form of a document, which was submitted to both sides last year. In Saint Petersburg only different approaches were discussed. Nalbandyan’s statement aims to distract attention of the Armenian and international communities from the essence of the issue.”

Asked about a possible meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers in Almaty, Polukhov said they were planning to hold such meeting, adding that it was negotiated, but not confirmed yet.
