Azerbaijani threats may become more realistic in summer: Richard Giragosian

When it comes to relations with Azerbaijan Armenia must be ready for the unpredictable, head of the Armenian Centre for National and International Studies Richard Giragosian told a press conference today, referring to the fact that recently the violations of ceasefire on the borderline with Azerbaijan have become more frequent than before.

“There is a risk of the resumption of a casual war, and a small and limited clash can very easily come out of control. The most dangerous thing for us it just the risk of a casual war,” said Giragosian, adding that Azerbaijan has a chance to throw down the war glove to Armenia to which Armenia must be ready.

At the same time he spoke about the June 18 Azerbaijani diversion attack on a Karabakhi military post, adding that the incident should be objectively evaluated. In his words the fact that Azerbaijan is increasing its expenses for obtaining weapons, creates a situation where Azerbaijan becomes the only threat to stability in the region.

In this context, according to Giragosian, it is probable that this summer the tension will grow, and in terms of attacks the Azerbaijani threats may become more realistic.
