Lida Nanyan disinformed Government: 77 teachers on the brink of uneployment

Teachers of school #23 in Gyumri had assemblied in Mush 2 block Friday to hand their claim-letter to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan as he participated in a long-waited house-warming ceremony that saw 1053 families having their own flats since the 1988 earthquake.

"Our school is being closed down, we ask the President to review that decision," teachers Varduhi Vardanyan and Hasmik Fahradyan told Tert.am, adding that their school has 420 pupils and that Lida Nanyan, former governor of Shirak marz (province), had spread disinformation by saying that the school has only 120 pupils.

Seventy seven teachers are on brink of unemployement should the school be closed down.

"We are told that we will be replaced [to other schools], but there are no vacancies in any of the schools in Gyumri," said they in an emotional uproar, adding that they are doubtful about the promises they will be given a job anytime soon.

In their words it was announced that the school would be closed down on August, therefore they should have been warned in May as to where they will be moved to.

"Till today we do not know where each specialist will go," added they.

Locals say that the school will be closed down because the building has been given to the Russian Federation as it is located in the territory of the Russian airbase in Gyumri.

"It is said that the school will be closed down as the building has been given to Russia as a gift. But we read under decision by [Armenia's Education Minister] Armen Ashotyan that it will be closed down because most of the children will attend high school.

Information we receive is controversial, and till now we do not even know what the reason is," the women said in an apparent despair, adding that they have expectations from the President and the newly appointed governor to find a solution to the problem.
