Why are agricultural produces still so expensive in Armenia? Explains Minister Alaverdyan

The recent rise in agriculture produces is not caused due to the wide-spread diseases in agricultural farms only, Armenia's Agriculture Minister Gerasim Alaverdyan told a press conference today, meaning that the produces are mainly exported or cultivated in green-houses.

"We will in a few days have our own yield, and prices will go down," said he.

Speaking about the diseases that have become more frequent than in previous years, Alaverdyan said that they are caused by long-lasting rains and hiper-humidity.

"They [diseases] are tomato cancer, wheat rust ... Yes, there are some areas where tomatos have been sprouted for three times. That is the main reason for the rise in prices," mentioned he.

According to Alaverdyan the villagers are well informed as to how to fight those diseases,

"There are all kinds of pesticides in Armenia, specialists provide the villagers with advice, they [the villagers] know how to fight those diseases timely. There may be some 2-3 cases when the villagers will not be informed," said Alaverdyan.
