Turkish parliamentary session marred by scuffle

A new scuffle in the Turkish parliament on Tuesday has caught media spotlight.

According to local Turkish daily Hurriyet it took place among MPs from the ruling Turkish Justice and Development Party and the opposition Nationalist Movement Party during the discussion of a bill to open eight new universities.

Yilmaz Tankut, an MP from the NMP reprimanded Muhyettin Aksak, an MP from the JDP, saying that he together with his colleagues were speaking all the time while he was delivering his speech over the bill.

"First listen, understand and then speak," Tankut told him. This remark is said to have sparked the scuffle.

After a few exchanges of blows and kicks the scuffle was prevented mainly due to intervention by other MPs present in the parliament.
